Fern Fond
This piece can be worked as a separate piece for sewing or
can be worked as part of a vine and leaf chain.
First side (work in back loop)
Leaving 6 inches at the beginning for sewing,
make loop and Ch 10 or length needed.

Working along starting chain, sl st in first 2 stitches, ch 3,
sl in next st, ch 4, sl st back to starting ch,
sl in next st, ch 5, sl st to starting ch,
sl st in next st, ch 6, sl st back to starting ch,
sl in next st, ch 7, sl st back to starting ch,
sl st in last 2 stitches. Do not turn.
Second side
Rotate work so you are working in the loops on the opposite side
of the starting ch, sl st in first st, ch 7, sl st back to starting ch,
of the starting ch, sl st in first st, ch 7, sl st back to starting ch,
sl in next st, ch 6, sl st back to starting ch,
sl st in next st, ch 5, sl st back to starting ch,
sl st in next st, ch 4, sl st back to starting ch,
sl st in next st, ch 3, sl st back to starting ch,
sl st in next st, end off, leaving 6 inch tail for sewing.
Heart Shape Leaves
Start with magic circle, sl st in ring chain 4, 5 tr, 5 dc, ch 3, sl st in first ch to form picot, 5 dc, 5 tr, chain 4 sl st, all in ring. Pull yarn tail and draw ring tightly closed. Tie, work in ends
Simple 4 Petal flower:
Start with magic circle. Sl st in ring, chain 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl in ring; repeat three more times, join to first st for 4 petal flower. Pull yarn tail to close center of flower, tie. Do not trim yarn.
(can also be made with 5 or 6 petals if desired)
If you desire to sew the flower on the next step may be eliminated and you may use the yarn tail to sew the button.
To create shank for button: Lay crochet hook on back of button. Using tail of yarn, stitch across hook several times to form shank of button.

Crochet Leaves and flowers on Vines
To crochet Vines and Leaves with flowers: Working on right side of afghan. Join yarn in first space between rows. Sc in each space to point where leaf is to be placed. Thread yarn through center of leaf and complete sc. Sc in next two spaces. Thread yarn through shank of flower and complete sc. Sc in each sp to next spot a leaf and/or flower is to be placed and continue around. End off, work in yarn ends.

if
the hook is too hard you can use a needle and yarn and embroider
Berry Stitch adds texture without bulk
Sc in first stitch, pull yarn through next stitch, holding back on first loop on hook chain 3,
yarn over pull through 2 loops on hook, sc in next stitch.
Keep loops of right side of work. Berry Stitch Complete
